Desktop Monsters is a 2D tower defense game set on a computer desktop turned into a battlefield. The player builds defenses, manages resources, and protects the Desktop Node from waves of malware, corrupted processes, data thieves, tower-stealing threats, and bosses. The central task is to keep the node safe as enemy pressure increases.
The Campaign progresses through three stages and 24 waves of threats and boss encounters. The Threat Database includes 24 hostile processes, while three major bosses—Trojan Core, Ransomware Warden, and Botnet Nexus—each bring their own battlefield pressure and mechanics.
Gameplay and features
- Build and combine defenses: Deploy five attack towers with different roles: the Cursor Turret deals sustained damage, the Firewall Node slows threats on crowded routes, the Antivirus Beam chains attacks across targets, the Packet Sniper pressures grouped enemies from long range, and the Sandbox Array adds specialized control. Reinforce positions with a Firewall Barrier and use upgrades and system skills.
- Defend across varied battlefields: Choose among three battlefields that affect tower placement and enemy routes. Open Desktop offers room to build freely, Tactical Grid structures form corridors, and Memory Channels alter movement paths and create flanking pressure.
- Choose a defense format: Play a 10-wave Standard Route, a 15-wave Extended Route, or Endless Mode, where pressure continues to rise. The Campaign spans three stages and 24 waves, while seven Challenges introduce rule-changing scenarios.
- Manage threats and system skills: Face 24 hostile processes and digital monsters, including enemies that steal data or towers, disrupt targeting, or protect other attackers. Choose from 21 system skills, improve defenses, and strengthen virus threats through multiple levels.
- Compete over a local network: In LAN matches, each player manages a separate desktop sector and can observe other players' sectors. Players can deploy hostile programs against rival desktops; if a sector is compromised, Retaliation Mode provides sabotage-focused tools to keep influencing the match.
Frequently asked questions
What is the main objective in Desktop Monsters?
Build digital defenses, manage resources, and protect the Desktop Node from increasingly dangerous waves of malware, corrupted processes, data thieves, tower-stealing threats, and bosses.
How do the battlefields affect defense?
The three battlefields change how towers can be positioned and how threats move. Open Desktop leaves room to build freely, Tactical Grid structures create corridors, and Memory Channels change routes and introduce flanking pressure.
What kinds of enemies can disrupt a defense?
Some threats do more than attack the Desktop Node: Data Thieves steal valuable data, Tower Collectors can take a tower, and Jammer and Shield threats disrupt targeting or protect other attackers. Enemies may also approach in flanks, escorts, or coordinated formations.
What does local LAN multiplayer involve?
Players defend separate Desktop Sectors in the same local-network match, building defenses and managing resources for their own desktop while observing other sectors. They can also deploy hostile programs against other desktops, and compromised players can use Retaliation Mode to continue influencing the match.
