Ironclads: American Civil War description
Ironclads: American Civil War is a naval strategy game about battles between Civil War ironclads and other warships. Command vessels in engagements ranging from USS Monitor versus CSS Virginia to clashes between armored steamship squadrons. The game features USA and CSA campaigns set against an alternate version of the conflict’s early years, in which the Confederacy gains diplomatic recognition and builds a stronger fleet. Across 14 missions, command a selection of 54 unique ships, including USS Monitor, CSS Virginia and USS New Ironsides.
Battles unfold in rounds, with each ship’s actions representing up to five minutes of combat. While the selected ship acts, other units remain still, and decision-making time is unlimited. Locations use a 1:1 scale without grid cells or hexagons.

- Physics-based movement: Ships move across full-scale, ungridded locations, with trajectories calculated using each vessel’s speed, size and shape.
- Civil War fleets: Command 54 unique ships across USA and CSA campaigns, including USS Monitor, CSS Virginia and USS New Ironsides.
- Naval damage and ballistics: Combat calculations cover collisions, flooding, capsizing and ammunition fires, while artillery tables inform accuracy, penetration and explosive damage.
