In Farthest Frontier, you guide a small group of settlers as they establish a town in wilderness at the edge of the known world. The central task is to sustain and grow the settlement by gathering resources, hunting, fishing and farming, while producing goods villagers can use, trade or equip.

The settlement develops through different building types and tiers: the town center and housing advance as prosperity and desirability rise, while production buildings can be upgraded to improve efficiency and make more advanced items. Maps use randomized terrain and resource distribution, with controls to set the amount of water or mountains.

Gameplay and features

• Plan crop rotations: Choose among 10 crops with different growing characteristics and configure rotations to maintain soil fertility and limit heat, frost and disease damage. Field work also includes removing weeds and rocks and adjusting soil mixture.
• Manage the flow of goods: Villagers carry goods from remote work sites for processing and crafting, while food and other goods are delivered to homes, the trade post or storage. Roads, wagons and storage improvements help move goods and prevent spoilage.
• Adapt to local resources: Develop the town’s economy around resources available nearby and trade goods to obtain what is lacking. Fencing can protect crops from deer and food stores from bears, while tree cover affects underground water supplies.
• Treat illness and reduce disease risks: Provide clean water and a varied diet, and keep villagers properly shod and clothed to reduce specific health risks. A healer’s house can quarantine infected villagers and provide herbs and medicine; waste collection and rat catchers help manage rodents.
• Build town defenses: For combat-focused play, develop defenses from wooden palisades to stone walls, towers and barracks, then recruit and equip soldiers to protect the town from raiders and foreign armies.
