In VOLTA, players create a male or female footballer and take part in different forms of football in locations around the world. The game also includes FIFA Ultimate Team, where players build a squad from thousands of footballers.

VOLTA has several distinct formats: Kick-Off takes professional teams into street locations, while VOLTA Story follows a player facing street-football legends and leads to a World Championship tournament in Buenos Aires. VOLTA League is an online player-versus-player format with promotion and relegation between divisions.

Attacking and set pieces: Strafe dribbling lets players move more agilely to draw in an opponent before trying to beat them with speed or skill. Free kicks and penalties offer more aiming options and skill-based striking mechanics.
