Lightyear Frontier is an open-world farming adventure about establishing an interstellar homestead on a new planet. The central activities are growing alien crops, building an exofarm and exploring the surrounding world. The experience is combat-free and does not require managing thirst or hunger.

The mech is the player’s means of working and exploring. Its tools can be chosen from an array, while upgrades, paint choices and mech parts provide ways to customize it. Up to three friends can join the settling and exploration, and players can pool resources to build their exofarm.

Gameplay and features

• Grow and use crops: Find seeds while exploring, then grow the plants into harvests. Water fields and use fertilizer to support crop growth; harvested crops can be traded for credits or used as materials for buildings and upgrades.
• Restore the ecosystem: Clean up pollution, clear invasive weeds and mitigate hazards to restore surrounding regions. Replant trees to replace those harvested as part of maintaining a sustainable homestead.
• Build and customize the farm: Turn resources into buildings and expand the homestead from basic structures into a retro-futuristic farm. Change its appearance with alternative color palettes and decorations.
• Explore with a scanner satellite: Work with a scanner satellite to decipher clues found across varied environments and uncover lost knowledge connected to the planet’s ancient secrets.
